WHAT TO EXPECT
For Elementary School Audiences: Younger audiences love to hear about where your ideas come from and what it’s like to be an author! We can talk about elements of a story and structure. What makes a story interesting and tips to write creative stories.
For Middle School Audiences: Middle school audiences can analyze story structure deeper, with discussions on plot, conflict, and theme. Discussion of voice and tense as well as drafting and revision. Use of fanfiction and fandom interests to learn the craft of writing. And of course, what it’s like to be an author and keeping writing and reading fun!
How to Prepare:
·Tell kids about the visit and have them think about questions they’d like to ask.
·Have them write questions down so they don’t get nervous on the spot.
·Order books ahead of time for availability in the classroom or library.
·If the session will be about a specific book, have students read ahead of time.
